"Common clinical indications for bone scan: (...) 5. Metabolic bone disease(...) Hyperparathyroidism (primary and secondary), Osteomalacia, Renal osteodystrophy (...) The radionuclide bone scan is the cornerstone of skeletal nuclear medicine imaging. Bone scintigraphy is a highly sensitive diagnostic nuclear medicine imaging technique that uses a radiotracer to evaluate the distribution of active bone formation in the skeleton related to malignant and benign diseases, as well as physiological processes." [3]
Ergänzend: "The role of parathyroid scintigraphy in the setting of reoperation is well established. Useful information might be obtained by performing a parathyroid scintigraphy prior to initial PTx in patients with sHPT: detection of an eventual ectopic gland, thus avoiding surgical failure or reducing the extent of dissection; identification of an eventual supernumerary parathyroid gland; and identification of the parathyroid gland with the lowest 99mTc-MIBI uptake intensity, intended to be partially autografted or maintained."
