Hey guys,

how would you translate "Oberarzt" into english?
I am aware of the fact, that a german "oberarzt" is roughly equivalent to an "attending" in the US System, but what about the UK or the Commonwealth Countries, if you set Consultant = Chefarzt.


Would you opt for "junior" Consultant"? Sub Consultant? Associated specialist, very senior SpR or what? And what about the german curiosity of "Funktionsoberarzt", a dreaded position, which simply doesn´t seem to exist anywhere else in the world.
Any input is, as alsways, appreciated.

in the UK:
Specialist Registrar = Oberarzt
Consultant = Chefarzt

But what about the fact, that there are actually quite a few people acting as Specialist Registrar without their CCT credentials (Certificate of Completion of training).

Technically these people are still trainees, I would consider them to be something like "Altassistent" over here. Would you still label them as "Oberarzt" ?
